Liturgy Commission
The mission of the Liturgy Commission is to do all that is necessary to permit and promote an authentic liturgical life that fosters community, healing, and unity.
Purpose: To oversee the functioning of the elements of corporate worship. This embraces a wide range of responsibilities: from providing a forum where new ideas and modes of worship can be proposed; planning observances and celebrations of the church calendar; encouraging community attendance and participation in worship services; educating parishioners in the history and tradition of liturgical worship; analyzing and critiquing liturgical practices; coordinating those whose duties support and enhance the corporate worship; to ensuring that the physical necessities of the worship space are appropriately provided and prepared.
The several ministries of the Liturgy Commission are:
Altar Guild: A dedicated group of women and men who work diligently behind the scenes to make sure that everything is in place for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. They launder and care for the altar linens, polish the silver and brass, set out the wine and the bread, prepare the candles and set up for Sunday and weekday services. They make sure that we have a good supply of bread, wine, candles, and linens.
Choir: Our choir provides a ministry in music as we worship. These singers volunteer their talent to the parish to join in creating joyful sound in our Sunday 10:30 a.m. liturgy and festival liturgies. Choir rehearses at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The choir is is always ready to welcome new members.
Children’s Chimes Choir: The Children’s Chimes Choir contributes occasionally to our worship.
Acolytes: Acolytes assist the clergy and lay ministers at the altar at all liturgies of the church. Training is provided. Acolytes serve on Sundays and during the week on a rotating basis.
Ushers: Ushers serve at Sunday services and special liturgies in making the service flow smoothly and in welcoming parishioners, passing out bulletins, providing assistance with seating or directions for childcare, restrooms, parking, etc. Ushers serve on a rotating basis.
Lay Readers (Lectors): These readers are trained to prepare and read clearly and prayerfully the Scripture lessons and/or the Prayers of the People in corporate worship. Readers serve on a rotating schedule.
Chalice bearers: trained and licensed by the Bishop of our Diocese to administer the Chalice during corporate worship.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers: Lay Eucharistic Ministers or "LEMs" are trained to take communion to those who are homebound.
Prayer Ministers: After discernment with the Rector and Prayer Minister Coordinator, these lay ministers are trained to provide a confidential and holy opportunity for those at both Sunday morning services who wish to come to a prayer station to ask for prayers and anointing after receiving communion. Prayer ministers serve on a rotating basis.
Taizè: An ecumenical service of candle light, meditative singing, prayer, scripture, and silence. Held on the 3rd Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
